Reflection on Juz’ 26 Tonya Bell

Editor’s Note: Inspired by Surah al-Hujurat (The Private Apartments), this reflection is provided by an incarcerated female, as she shares a poem which touches on the unhealthy relationships witnessed and experienced between women while detained.

Oh you who believe! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor address him in the manner that you address one another, lest your deeds come to naught, while you are unaware. (al-Hujrarat, 49:2)

Natural Fitra

Count not Islam as doing someone, such as Prophet Muhammad, a favor

But count your blessings, that you are guided to Islam by Allah.

There is a reason why, if you don’t backbite, that life will work out in your favor

Because Allah has made rules for us to go by –

So we can follow them and get along with our neighbor.

So, don’t call another bad names cause it is not a part of your natural fitrah–

It’s drama, Satan made,

So get along with other tribes and your neighbor.

Make peace with one another.

That is in your nature.

Truly those who lower their voices before the Messenger of God, they are the ones whose hearts God has tested for reverence. Theirs shall be forgiveness and a great reward.
