As the sun sets on the last night of Ramadan and the 30th juz is read, a bittersweetness floods the air. We are amongst the privileged who have experienced another blessed month with endless opportunities to have the Qur’an penetrate our hearts.
It's common to highlight injustice when criticizing the caustic behaviors of the 1%, but if I’m being honest, I’ve also recognized the same ways toxic perspectives manifest in my own life and choices, and my own perspectives on the comforts I am entitled to.
I got holes in my soul only God can fill,
I got hurt in my heart only God can heal,
‘Til Israfil blows on the Trumpet
and the Final Hour commences,
‘Til the heaven is render a scroll
in the Almighty’s Hand,
The sunlight coming down, a warm meal, friends that bring laughter and comfort into my life or a good night’s sleep are all trivial moments that often go unnoticed in our daily lives, but together make up the peace and joy we get to experience.
